Mechanical engineering companies and occupational health management - can they work together?

The answer is quite clear: YES! The most important asset of any company is its employees with all their skills, abilities and needs.

The most important asset of any company is its employees with all their abilities, skills and needs. We, PAMA paper machinery GmbH, see ourselves as a family and operate under the motto of our Managing Director Uwe Maier: "Success is always the result of a whole team!"

As in any family, we also have younger and more experienced colleagues among us. Everyone has his or her own story and background and gives his or her best every day. Our occupational health management includes both behavioural and relationship-oriented measures to make working conditions (more) conducive to health and to enable employees to behave in a way that strengthens their resources.
One thing is clear: there is a lot to do, but where do we start?

To begin with, we have been working with the AOK health insurance company for Saxony and Thuringia a capable cooperation partner who will first show us what is important! Because a lot of things are new for us too. We conducted a survey together and asked ourselves what is important for our employees? What does our colleagues' day-to-day work look like? What is important? A change of perspective!

The results were very interesting and as a result we started to implement the first measures and asked afterwards how these measures were received.

For more than two years now, we have been organizing an annual health day with external partners on a wide variety of topics according to the wishes of our colleagues, such as

DGM Dein Gesundheitsmanagement GmbH (formerly "Deine Laufschule Leipzig GbR") from Leipzig

Sportivation - for vital companies from Dresden

For example, the topic of back health does not stop at us. We carried out measurements that individually mapped the skeleton as well as the muscle structure. The aha moments were great. People were amazed, talked to each other about their personal results and possibly also became aware of their own responsibility for their health!

Many colleagues in offices sit at their PCs, but just as many stand on their feet all day at the machines. Healthy feet are the foundation - what influence do feet and shoes have on the back? That's why we offered foot measurements for those interested and then had the right footwear selected for everyday working life. Now it's time to tackle the tasks with light feet.

A final example were eye workshops with interesting hints and tips on possible exercises for eye relaxation and care.

Our experiences from just these two health days were great! It's important and nice to see how much interest there is among colleagues. Engaging in discussions, receiving feedback, getting suggestions and talking to colleagues about more than just work-related topics. All this and much more can be initiated by occupational health management. We are convinced that, as an employer, we have a duty of care. We are happy to fulfill this duty and, hand in hand with our employees, we achieve a good interplay of responsibilities in order to contribute to a health-promoting working environment and more mindfulness for everyone.

We learn together, we learn from each other and together it is so much easier. So one thing is certain: the next Health Day is already being planned, as well as further workshops, seminars, training courses, events and get-togethers!
